University of Alabama Science and Engineering Complex
The Science and Engineering Complex is the expansion of the University of Alabama’s Shelby Interdisciplinary Center for Transportation and Science. This 3-story, 215,000 square foot facility houses, classroom, administrative, and multiple laboratories, and lecture halls. Phase II completes the original vision of the University to provide a premiere facility for the campus. Hoar was involved with this project from the early programming phase and will complete construction in Summer 2009. The delivery model is single-prime phased construction packages with Hoar serving as construction manager for the University. This project included not only the addition of the new building to the complex but a complete relocation and construction of a new central plant to serve the entire Shelby Complex.

Hoar Program Management was the Owner’s agent/program manager for the project. As program manager, Hoar managed the project through design, bid and award, and construction. Working with the University, Hoar PM managed the scope development/programming, working with the end users, architects, planning department – also participating in the grant writing process. HPM also developed the construction budget and overall project budget, and ultimately maintained responsibility for the project budget, including construction and owner furnished items such as furniture and equipment, telecommunications, security and audio-visual.
